APT and Fičo Balet presents

SUN CITY is a space between the
everyday life and dance. An intimate dance spectacle and a full length
dance performance for seven dancers. With their diversity they covers
almost all dance fields. One of starting points for reflection was
positive utopia "The City of the Sun" by 16-century Dominican
theologian, philosopher and poet Tommaso Campanella. First step which
placed us into Sun City was searching for common language, expression
and the question, are Love and Understanding possible in such a
constellation of individuals? Men and women principles were developed,
stories about the city inhabitants and their extreme relationships,
individual expressions and collective movements. Through dance, they
manifest themselves as different changes of energetic and emotional
fields. Part of the most eclectic and uplifting music is performed live
by Michael Wadada / Suns of Arqa (UK).

Civitas solis, one of the most
resounding utopian texts, was written in 1623 by a Calabrian
philosopher and Dominican theologist Tamasso Campanella (1568–1639).
This scholar wrote the largest part of his opus (comprising more than
eighty works) during long years of imprisonment in a dungeon, after
being tortured, trialled and condemned by the Inquisition for his
heretic learning and conflict with authorities. In the manner of
Plato's Republic and More's Utopia, Campanella described his ideal of
the state in Sun City, arguing for the Republic governed by Reason by
means of Wisdom, Power and Love, and with communal life and wealth
leading to universal harmony. A. D.
